Ruthie Collins on Gardening…

One of my earliest memories is of being in my mothers garden with her. Actually, my mom says she’d plop me down beside her while she was weeding or planting and I would shove fist full’s of dirt in my mouth… Eww….

Whatever the reason, I love gardening. There’s a peace to planting something and watching it grow.. I feel like so much in life so often is out of our control… but I know that when I plant hydrangeas in a nice shady spot and water them like crazy, (I call them never hydratedgaes..) that I will have beautiful blooms all summer long…

Where I live in Tennessee, the soil is very dry… I like gardening in raised beds because I can control what soil my plants are exposed to and it’s easy to keep them full of compost and other nutrients!

A few years back, we planted a row of knock out roses down our back deck just like this… Now they are almost as tall as our fence! I love knock out roses because they are beautiful and you pretty much can’t kill them. Perfect for a busy bee like me:)

I ADORE lavender… It’s just so… french! I’ve tried and tried to keep a lavender plant alive but no dice. Lavender makes my green thumbs black:( We have a super shady yard so anything that needs a lot of sun is hard…
